A time to rest… Into The Heart Week 9.

I wonder if you might be feeling some fatigue this week.  My Dad thinks so!  I didn’t mention this before, but my father partnered with me in this blog series.  He reads all of the posts I write and gives me feedback before I publish them.  Last week, his response was, “I think it might be time for a break.”

I believe he’s right.  We’re about half-way through our journey together—a perfect time for intermission.  Please take the week off to rest from the good work you’ve done.  After all, quality soul work is a costly endeavor.  The road to deeper self-knowledge and acceptance with God can be uniquely depleting.  We need some time away once in a while to breathe, replenish spent resources, and consolidate our thoughts.

I realize that some of you won’t have the slightest problem dropping your computers and enjoying this rest stop.  I bet there are others, though, who would feel more comfortable with something to do.  So, I include a prayer project that might be attractive to you.

Bless you as you relax and restore.  See you next week!

Prayer Project

I have found that time in nature is vital to my spiritual and emotional health.  So, I’m thinking….  Why not spend an hour or so outside?  Find a place that feels very spacious, then pick a comfortable place to sit.  Just be there.  If you like, maybe follow these 3 simple steps:

  1. Ask God this sweeping question: “Lord, please open to me whatever you know is good for me.”
  2. Now, just stay quiet and try not to think about anything at all—release any agenda or expectation you might have.  Allow your mind to loosen and clear a bit.  You don’t want to search for anything; you just want to be with God and receive whatever He has for you.  Maybe He wants you to rest.  Maybe He wants to show you something.  Let the time be whatever it is.
  3. When you return home, take a few minutes to write down what this experience with God was like for you.  Then, give Him thanks….
