Into the Heart; A Guided Spiritual Journey toward Becoming A Better Man–Welcome

Welcome to my blog!  Thank you for taking the time to visit.  I want to say right up front that my initial series of posts (which start this week) will not be typical—they won’t be stand-alone thoughts on individual topics.  They will lead us on journey.  A four-month journey.  And I hope you will join me.

Our destination is actually a process, a way of life that leads us toward more robust masculinity.  And, hey, what man doesn’t want a booster shot of that?  But I particularly invite you to walk this road with me if you are a man who sees himself as a “guy.”  This man was me for so much of my life, and I have found that I was certainly not alone.  So many men feel a deep incongruence between their concept of a man and who they believe they are.  No worries!  Being more comfortable with the “guy” self-descriptor is normal and expected for those of us who need more transformation.  And that’s a lot of us!

There are several more things you need to know before we get underway.  First, we will not address comprehensive manhood.  The magnitude of the topic is far beyond the scope of this blog and better addressed by other men.  Indeed, development of fully-orbed masculinity is an expansive work of God in our lives that has many aspects outside of this blog’s topic.  Instead, we will focus on a critical feature of our masculine formation that is very often overlooked and—I believe—holds maximum potential for growth: putting off the “old man” (Ephesians 4:22).

Second, even though we will interact with a four-month curriculum, our journey may take a little longer.  We want to leave room to address important questions that might emerge along the way.

Third, blog posts will be published once a week on Wednesdays, giving ample space to engage in the prayer assignments that I’ve attached to each post.

In addition, I will post a “Project of the Month” for you to tackle if you want to.  This is a fun way to balance the serious work we will undertake together.  Since one of my passions is to see more men embrace creativity, beauty, adventure, and hands-on work, I will offer two types of projects each month to whet your appetite for making decor for your homes.  I hope you enjoy them.

Okay, let’s jump in.  The only thing you need to pack for the journey is honesty.  Transparency with yourself and with God will take you far.  Please go ahead and check out Post 1 and remember to take a look at the project for our first month together!
